Northfield Farm is a free range farm in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. They specialise in rearing their own rare and traditional British breeds. They were accredited as a butcher by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust in 1997 and also produce award-winning burgers and sausages.
Northfield Farm quality standards
While they rear and butcher a majority of their meat, they have now formed an informal cooperative with other farms with similar principles. They now encourage others to breed, rear and finish rare and traditional breeds.
According to their website:
“Here at Northfield Farm we have chosen traditional breeds that are reared slowly and naturally outdoors, except during the worst of winter when they live in our barns and are fed from hay and silage which we have made from our own grassland.
Slowly reared animals taste better because their flavour has had time to develop at its natural rate.”
